Platform for the Animal Research Facility

_

The main purpose of the animal facility is to host animals (i.e. mice & rats) to use for animal experimentation for different types of biological and medical studies; Autoimmune diseases (i.e. rheumatoid arthritis, lupus nephritis…), infectious diseases such as (CLP, Gram+ pneumonia), neurodegenerative diseases (i.e. Alzheimer’s disease, spinal atrophy (SMA), Parkinson’s disease…), xenograft models for different types of cancers, with the use of different investigation tools (surgery, etc.).The initial storage capacity of the animal facility can go up to 240 cages for mice. It is equipped with two CLASS II SAFETY CABINET AND CHANGING STATION (PSM), Centrifuges, co2 incubator, scales, a cold chain including a refrigerator, and a freezer at -20°C. Every room in the animal facility is equipped with IVC system cages and a changing hood. Two washing rooms are equipped with two double-door autoclaves.

This platform makes it possible to host and handle class 2 genetically modified organisms.

The internal space of the animal facility is well-sealed and isolated from outside environment and in line with both the guidelines related to animal housing provided by the veterinary services as well as biosafety rules defined by international organization for animal health. The facility is also conceived in line with national regulations and guidelines.
