BSL -3: Biosafety Security Lab – Level 3
MISSIONS
One of the missions the FMS was the establishment of state-of-the-art Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratories that can be upgraded to BSL4 for diagnosis, research, and development of treatments for serious or potentially lethal diseases caused by infectious agents or toxins. The FMS aims to provide a safe and secure environment for its researchers, staff, and the public, while promoting scientific discovery and innovation.
The FMS is committed to meeting international standards for the construction and operation of BSL-3 laboratories, and ensuring that its researchers, engineers, and contractors are fully trained and equipped to handle pathogenic and potentially lethal agents. FMS BSL-3 facilities are equipped with the latest technologies and safety features to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
In addition to its commitment to safety, the FMS is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge in the field of infectious diseases. Through its BSL-3 laboratories, the FMS seeks to conduct groundbreaking research that leads to the development of new treatments and therapies for serious and potentially lethal diseases.
Overall, our mission is to establish a world-class BSL-3 laboratory that is a leading center for research, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and security.
Medical Biology activities
In BSL-3 laboratories, we work on identifying, characterizing, and manipulating infectious agents or toxins. This includes culturing and isolating microorganisms, studying their genetic structure, and developing diagnostic tests to detect their presence in patient samples. BSL-3 laboratories also play a key role in studying the transmission, epidemiology, and host-pathogen interactions of infectious diseases.
Main Activities :
The BSL-3 facility is equipped with the latest technologies and safety equipment for pathogen cultivation and isolation
Our BSL-3 facilities represent the ideal space for basic research on the biology and behavior of infectious agents including their genetic structures, their interactions with host cells, and their potential vulnerabilities.
In BSL-3 laboratories, we are also interested in screening and identifying new drugs against infectious diseases.
Diagnostic testing of infectious diseases is one of our missions. This include testing for the presence of specific pathogens in patient samples, as well as testing the effectiveness of potential treatments.
Infection diseases require animal models for in-vivo studies, for this purpose, laboratories dedicated to handling and manipulating animals are present within the BSL-3 facilities
Environmental applications
Through our BSL-3 facilities, we are committed to studying emerging infectious diseases that can threaten human health. Our efforts aim to help prevent and respond to outbreaks. We are also interested in developing diagnostic tools for infection diseases that can be used in clinical settings in order to improve patient outcomes and reduce the spread of infectious diseases in the environment.
